Guess what? My little city is actually hosting a massively entertaining event that is going down this weekend (it actually begins tomorrow, but in my mind it isn’t until the weekend – way to go work). It is an all around, five-day, celebration of the arts in downtown Lafayette. There will be over 100 music performances, local food and drink vendors as far as the eye can see, and arts and crafts merchants on every block. Want some banana leaf art, botanical glass, or something fashionable from Africa or New York? You got it. I personally don’t take the food vendors lightly either. If you ever have the chance to attend this festival, I strongly suggest you do not either. We have some of the most serious grub at this thing. By serious, I mean orgasmic.

As I am writing about how incredible this happening is, I can’t help but feel a bit hypocritical. You see, I have only participated in Festival once since I moved to Lafayette, LA. Let me add however, not by choice. As a full-time student working for a corporate restaurant with mostly restaurant chain veterans, I was rarely rewarded off on the days I chose in the previous years. Alas, I refuse to think of this as an acceptable excuse. Although I only went once (about four years ago – yikes), I can still vouch for its awesomeness. And that is saying something.

This weekend can not come quick enough for me. In true – get my southern junkie fix on while I can – fashion, I will be trying to spend as much time as my liver body and wallet will allow me to at festival this year. The Festival does not cost to attend, however parking does and is a bit of a labyrinth. Also, if you drink like a southerner you are going to need a decent amount of cash for drink tickets. I don’t care who you are, you won’t have strength to resist the noms, so you will need some dough for that as well. All in all, it is not an expensive event… just keep in mind I am trying to save some paper for Beantown.

I will be sure to try to take some of my own photos to share. I would definitely recommend taking a nice weekend trip to experience this uber-cultural event and feast for the senses if you live close enough for the drive.
