Activities. So Many Activities.

color run 2012

So when I began writing this blog, one of my goals was to try new things this year. I can’t change the fact that I do not yet have the resources to make the move I want, the way I want just yet. So how do I pass the time? I signed up today to embarrass myself at the Color Run this year in New Olreans November 17th. Never have I participated in any kind of run (unless you count running from frogs). Running is not exactly my favorite physical activity, so it will also be a bit of a challenge. Although the race itself is laid back, and you don’t have to run, I’d like to attempt completing the whole thing without having to drop the pace. It is 3.1 miles of “color madness” and the final product is a human canvas turned multicolored splattered masterpiece by volunteers, sponsors and staff. Luckily for me, you can join teams so you don’t have to awkwardly run alone. Who am I kidding, I run like a gazelle. The bonus? After you become the next Pollock look-alike, you can go unwind over on Bourbon street.

Along the same lines, last night I attended my first Pilates class in… well I can’t even remember. The weather was downright hostile yesterday afternoon, and I was feeling a little less than enthused. Fortunately, the instructor was super welcoming and really seemed to know her stuff. To my surprise, it all came back pretty quickly and smoothly for me. I didn’t realize just how much I miss the classroom setting. I felt like I was back in ballet class for that brief hour minus the bars, alignment belts, and occasional self-loathing. While Pilates is by no means Ballet, it does incorporate similar slow controlled movements that force you to engage muscles in a very different way than you would simply running the treadmill or spinning the bike. I am certainly looking forward to future classes. I’ am equally as eager to pick my instructors brain about the certification process.

I would tell you how the Photoshop trials are going, but there isn’t much to say at this point. It takes a lot more time and dealing with frustration than I expected, especially trying to learn at home via YouTube and Becca’s step by step process of how to fail at technology. At least I am trying, but let’s just say if I showed you the WTF worthy deformities I have made so far, I’d have to disappear from the internets for a while. Or forever.

If you are interesting in embarrassing yourself (or maybe showing off?) you can join the color run in your area here.

About becca3416

I am a twenty-something year old southern ballerina turned business student. While I graduated college with a degree in Marketing, I currently work in Safety for an oil field company. Sadly, I do not even own a hard hat. Up until this point, I have followed the path set out for me that was promised to lead me to success. What I did not do, was take the time to figure out what my definition of success is. Having lived in Louisiana my entire life, I am utterly fixated on my goal of eventually moving somewhere new (preferably far) while pursuing a career in writing and/or social media marketing. I believe one of my callings is making people laugh. Although I think I can play the drums, I cannot and will not sing in front of humans. Don’t ask.

  3. Check out Polestar for certification. I sent you a Facebook message with the number of the instructor at my work. She said you could give her a call if you had any questions, too.

    • I checked out Polestar. Thanks so much for that info. It is a big help. I didn’t get your message on Facebook however. That is pretty awesome that she is willing to talk with me though! I’ll take any advice I can.
