I Don’t Watch “Girly” Shows
Some things about me:
1. I don’t eat cereal, but if I did I wouldn’t eat it with milk. That’s disgusting.
2. I don’t have barbies anymore, but if I did I would totally line them up on my ceiling fan blades and flip the switch to on. I make it rain… dolls.
3. I don’t have cable anymore, but if I did I would be watching the premier of the new season of Grey’s Anatomy in exactly ten days. Don’t look at me like that. There is sarcasm all up in that title.
Did I do the trifecta thing right Edward? I had a different Rule of Three experience, so I am not too sure.
So, what have we learned? I don’t like soggy food, or the word soggy, and I don’t have the healthiest ways of entertaining myself. My previous barbies will vouch for that.
Speaking of entertainment and TV shows, I have discovered a new series. You’ve probably never heard of it, but it is named Dawson’s Creek.
Somehow I was never properly obsessed with this show ten years ago when it actually aired. I was probably too busy seeing how many items I could sling off of my ceiling fan. I also remember being ridiculously consumed in The OC and fantasizing about seven minutes in heaven with Adam Brody. Between the two activities there wasn’t time for much else.
How I never so much as channel surfed my way to Dawson’s Creek in between dodging commercials is beyond my comprehension, but I didn’t. I fret not. Thanks to Netflix, I can now time travel back to the nineties and earn this right of passage. I might possibly be one of the last people still wondering when Dawson is going to get laid.
Regardless, It is nice to go back. Back when twenty-five years olds played fourteen year olds and there was always a moral at the close of an episode. Back when scenes became more intense with an Alanis Morissette song. Back when ceramic hair straighteners didn’t exist and actresses looked more like normal people.
With seasons one and two down, I began to wonder how much these fictional high school dramas have probably changed in a decade. After reading The Hook’s post referencing Glee, I don’t think I am quite ready to leave the nineties. Dawson and Joey may be frustratingly prude, but at least missionary sounds less dicey than scissoring. Cue audience laughter.
What is your favorite show from the 90′s?

I’m pretty sure that’s a cat stole.
SHUT UP Ted, whoever you are
. That’s my pet mink. Well, he was that particular day.
So have you seen the premiere of Grey’s Anatomy yet? I love that show. Let me check on “Dawson’s Creek” (yeah I haven’t heard of it).
I am assuming you are being sarcastic. And yes, I did see the premiere of Grey’s. Shonda Rhimes has lost her mind.
Killing off my favorite characters tss. At least Meredith’s still there (of course haha!)
I don’t see how there can be another season after this. It’s truly depressing.
Hey don’t be depressed, quirky Kepner seems to be coming back. I miss her haha! (don’t judge)
I won’t judge… but I am tempted haha!
You really like the idea of a mink stole. I’m gonna have to get you one. A nice ratty one, like from the 50s, something Liz Taylor barfed on during a drunken escapade with Richard Burton.
You are right. I would get way too carried away with something like that. Please send immediately.
This just like me. I just discovered the Macarena and I can’t….stop…dancing….
I just loved this post =) I am a big fan of the nineties and I believe I’ll never truly leave them behind. I carry the decade in my heart and on my Ipod.
Thank you! Glad I could be of entertainment. From the music to the shows, the 90′s sure were somethin’ special.
I obsessed over Buffy the Vampire Slayer last summer. In my defense, when it first aired I was more into Winnie the Pooh.
I never watched Buffy either. Some people would say I am televisionly challenged. Winnie the Pooh is my boy though.
Buffy is a great show, snappy dialogue and a strong main female character who can really kick some ass. Plus, Joss Whedon, the writer/creator is excellent with setting his characters up in terrible situations where you feel their pain. It’s one of my all time favorite shows.
The X Files, Boy Meets World, ER, Family Matters, Home Improvement, Saved By The Bell, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, there’s so many good choices from the 90s.
Yep! I watched all except X Files and ER. But I am sure they were equally as nineties-esque. Thanks for commenting.
I inspired this post? You well and truly rock, Becca!
Aw, well I was thinking the same about you.
Annnnnd I forgot to link back to your post. *bangs head on table*
Hold on… I’m still in shock that you don’t have cable.
TV is such a staple in our house that it becomes background noise. Since we don’t really go out much anymore it IS our entertainment budget (or is it that we don’t go out because we have TV?).
Tammy watches so many of those girlie shows that I had to get a DVR of my own in the basement for my shows. If it says “The Real Houseb!tches of” then she’s recording it. hahaha…
As far as the 90s shows… I never got into Dawson’s Crick (haha) but besides all of the sitcoms, I did watch Party of Five and you might like that one if you like The Crick. hahaha…
Damn, no cable? But I do like the view from your balcony so I’ll give you a pass and promise to take up your TV-watching slack.
I just don’t have as much time as I used to, and I live alone, so I am usually not at home as to avoid loneliness and boredom! It just wasn’t worth the bill especially when I only have one show I religiously watch (Grey’s) that is still being produced. I do have Netflix though. It is cheap, has a more than decent selection and I can watch episodes on my phone while I am supposed to be working. I may or may not be doing that as we type.
