Why Am I Here?

becca cord

I am a twenty-something year old southern ballerina turned business student. While I graduated college with a degree in Marketing, I currently work in Safety for an oil field company.  Up until this point, I have followed the path set out for me that was promised to lead me to success. What I did not do, was take the time to figure out what my definition of success is. Having lived in Louisiana my entire life, I am pondering the goal of eventually moving somewhere new while pursuing a career in writing and/or social media marketing. I believe one of my callings is making people laugh. Although I think I can play the drums, I cannot and will not sing in front of humans. Don’t ask.

If someone offered me 1 billion dollars, or the freedom to wear men’s long johns everywhere I go, I would take the long johns. You need to know this. I also have become extremely infatuated with creating short video skits and vlogs. Some of them accompany my posts, and others are just for fun. You can find those on the page titled BeccaTube.

What else will you find on the blog?

Writing, because I like that shit.

Jokes. I have them. Sometimes.

Hopefully some tips for life in general. Or, at least a few examples of what not to do.

NOTE: The banner photo for 25toFly was an idea formulated based on milestones achieved in the first year of this blog’s birth in 2012. Lane Pelissier, a local friend and photography hobbyist took the shots after I presented him with the concept. Le Clown then helped me by formatting and enhancing the photo to make it the appropriate fit for my banner and blog. I thank both of these gentlemen from the bottom of my long johns.

  2. Well, if I had a dollar for every twenty-something year old southern ballerina turned business student that I met, I’d be billionaire, and then we’d just see about that men’s long johns comment of yours. Where have you been all my life Becca? We’re both here now, so let’s have some fun and make a little noise. Looking forward to more of those videos and reading some of your stuff….

    • Although all of these things are true facts about me, Becca, Becster, Bec, or Bex… you have inspired me to update my About page here in the near future. The long john parts stay, don’t sweat.

This is going to be fun. I’m off to grab my vuvuzela. Weeeee!

      • Well, I was only teasing, so don’t get your long johns in a bunch. I’ve actually never met a twenty-something year old southern ballerina turned business student. It was a bad joke. Don’t worry, I tell a lot of them. You kinda get used to them, and just sorta nod your head. I don’t know how the emoticon looks for nodding your head :0 Maybe that’s it. See, another bad joke. Well, I don’t know what a vuvuzela is, so I’m gonna go Google it. But yeah, we’re gonna have some fun BecSTAR (Get it? Because you play drums – like a rock star.) It’s another bad joke, and I like to always end it on a bad joke, so goodbye.

  3. hi, your funny, i am going to like this, i have decided that success and a lot of other things that i thought i had to have are kind of optional now so I know i need my higher power and beyond that well anything really can be taken away besides God if you think about it. I know sounds kinda crazy but Mozart was crazy and all the sane people like his music!!! Enstein was crazy, Van Gogh did alot of his painting in a nut house……lol anyway more power to ya…Peace

    • I got on the thread they do at the end of the week called “There are Chivettes Among Us” or something like that. I wouldn’t send in anything sexy though. Just a simple smile in my Chive shirt.

I also really like my Halloween edition glow in the dark Chive shirt. You have to be quick!

  15. You’re a southern belle huh? I’ve never been to Loosyana but I’d love to visit sometime. You don’t sing in front of people? I ONLY sing in front of people. (and they’re like stoppppp)

  17. Hey Becca! I stumbled across your blog via Maddie Cochere and David Harding. Interesting blog you have here. You play drums? I can play air-drums really well. No-one’s ever heard me miss a beat!
Looking forward to more fun! ;)

  18. I’m a (female) drummer as well! And we’re probably about the same age. If you ever need any help or support, let me know! (Believe it or not, my unicorn hooves actually make it easier to play–I just can’t hold sticks)

  25. Dear Becca,

Awesome blog! You succeeded in making me laugh, so I must say your calling fits you nicely. Love how the word “Ninjas” appears on your blog (I hope others appreciate it as much as I do). Ever since a customer at work said “Oh my god! You’re like a ninja!” to me when I refilled his water glass without him knowing, I’ve felt that maybe I was all “stealth-like” and should probably go around making my own theme music while sneaking around like Kronk does in The Emperor’s New Groove. Although, that may be very un-ninja like.

    But, I digress.

Very cool blog and I’m happy to have had the change to visit. As Arnold Schwarzenegger once said (and yes, I had to look up his name to make sure I was spelling it right):

    I’ll be back!

    Marie
    Good Morning, Joe

    • Marie, being deemed ninja-like is the second best honor to having la or le in front of your name. You are actually the first to mention the ninja count! Awesome.

So glad you enjoy my humor and will be sticking around (I would have had to Google the spelling of Arnold’s name too, no sweat). I plan to visit you as well. Thanks Marie!

You really do like long johns, don’t you, Becca?
    Fortunately, on you, they work!

  37. Hi Becca. I’ve come to you by way of Le Clown. It was a great surprise today to be put on his blogroll. I feel I’m in very good company. It’s great to finally meet you as I’ve seen you over there. I was a ballerina, too…once. Cheers!

  39. Ah, we of the kindred spirit. It took me a bit longer to get antsy and restless in my “career,” but I *did* escape my home state at an earlier age. Glad to meet others on this hell-bent journey, and love reading your stuff. Because you’re funny and shit. :D But tell me, are you taking on NaNoWriMo this year?

    • That’s so cool. Meeting new people is one of the best things ever. Thanks for the compliment, I really love to make people laugh… even if it is silently and through a computer screen.

      NaNo-whata? Inform me…

      • National Novel Writing Month. The goal is to write a complete 50,000 word manuscript during the month of November. I tied last year and bombed big time. So, I’m trying again because…. I like pain? I find it’s better when I don’t analyze my own reasoning too much.

        • You are SO brave. I felt stressed just reading your comment. I don’t think this year will be possible for me to take on such a task, but thanks for informing me. I will certainly need a full year’s worth of mental preparation if I am going to take on such a behemoth in the future! Good luck to you though… I will be expecting updates :) .

          • Since I’ll have 0 blogging time while doing it, I think I’m just going to post random excerpts. Whatever NaNoWriMo work I did on the day I’d normally post, that’s what’ll get posted. Because “random” and “unhinged” are descriptors I’m aiming for when it comes to my online persona.

  42. That is quite strange that you nominated me for the same award I was going to nominate you for. I wrote my blog up last night and have it set to publish at 11:00AM pacific time today. So you have been nominated as well…It just won’t show up until 11.

  43. Bonjour! Como sa vas? (Not sure how to spell that, but there’s my phonetic rendition, lol). I was raised in s. LA and the biggest thing I miss since moving away is the food. There is just no substitute and nowhere to buy ingredients even. Otherwise, it is so nice to be able to sit on my porch at night and listen to the creek wandering downhill and not have to swat so many mosquitoes or mop beads of sweat.

Thanks for following my blog and i hope to see you around. Since you enjoy writing, you might enjoy our Friday Fictioneers fun. We also have a new FB page if you’re on FB: http://facebook.com/FridayFictioneers.

    • Salut! So nice to see another southerner around WordPress :) . I found your blog from checking out Rich’s Friday Fiction post. I keep itching to try it out! How long did you live in LA, and where do you live now (if you don’t mind me asking)? I absolutely love LA, but I have to experience something different. I started my blog to keep me busy/ track my success in reaching that goal. I will certainly miss the food, especially crawfish. I suppose when I finally venture out in the world I will have to bring a gargantuan supply of Tony’s along with me. Thanks so much for stopping by, and I look forward to maybe trying to participate in the fiction fun at some point.

      • Haha, yes, I’m out of Tony’s now and missing it badly, LOL. And although a few people out here DO make crawfish runs and come back up here to boil them… eeewww. Not the same. Whenever I go home or anyone else comes up I always try to send a grocery list – sausage, coffee, and crawfish are the most wanted items. I lived between New Orleans and Baton Rouge from 1971-2005. That’s where my family all still live. My maiden name is ‘Templet’ and I figure you’ll know how it’s pronounced ;) Now I live in NW AR and I really do love it but where I’d really like to live is out west up in the Rockies. Good to meet you!

  44. two things: 1. you’ve got to be sick of people telling you how beautiful you are.
    2. i love that you have attitude as well. “because i like that shit.”

good luck with everything and keep at it.
